Terms and conditions

Terms of service.

1. Who we are

The Solar Indicator service, solarindicator.com, is operated by SENTIENT BIT SRL, Brașov, Romania. You can reach us at [email protected] or through the contact form.

2. Accepting the terms

By accessing the site and using the service you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service. The terms apply to every visitor and user, with or without an account.

3. What the service is

Solar Indicator estimates the output of a photovoltaic installation from its location, the orientation and tilt of the roof, the installed power, the obstacles and the terrain around the site. The result is an estimate, computed from a multi-year satellite climatology. Detailed mode adds string sizing, the choice of protections, the single-line diagram, the economic analysis and the technical project, generated from the same data.

4. The estimate is not a production guarantee

This is the most important clause in this document, so we say it plainly: the figures shown are statistical estimates, not promises. The real output of an installation depends on the weather in that year, on the equipment installed, on the quality of the work, on soiling, on local shading not entered in the calculation, on faults and outages. The engine is compared against PVGIS, the European reference, and on our reference cities in Romania the mean deviation of the annual output is about 3%; larger deviations are possible for particular sites and configurations.

Do not use the result as the sole basis of an investment decision. A real project needs measurements on site and sizing by a licensed designer. The documents Detailed mode generates - the calculation brief, the drawings, the technical project - are working tools for a specialist, who is responsible for checking and signing them.

5. The account

Simple mode and the first step of Detailed mode can be tried without an account. To run the estimate and use the remaining steps you need an account, created with a valid e-mail address, and an active licence. The account is personal: you are responsible for keeping the password and for everything done from your account. Tell us at once if you suspect someone else is using it.

6. The licence, the price and the payment

Access to the service is granted under a licence: a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription or a licence code issued by us, for a month, a year or permanently. The current prices are 8.99 € a month and 98.89 € a year and are final prices; the applicable price is the one shown at the moment of purchase, on the Pricing page. The Basic licence includes up to 3 projects saved in your account, opened from any device; the project in your browser stays yours either way.

Payment is by card, through Stripe. Card details are taken directly by the payment processor; we neither see nor store them. Once the payment is confirmed, the licence is activated on your account at once, and the invoice is issued electronically on the billing details in your account and sent to you by e-mail.

The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown at the time of renewal, until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time from your account page; cancelling stops the renewal, and access remains until the end of the period already paid. On expiry, access to the estimate and to the advanced steps stops; the account, the projects and the settings remain, and access returns with a new licence.

Licence codes are issued by us (promotions, partners, installers). A code can be used once, adds the period written on it to the licence of the account it is activated on, and has no monetary value: it is not exchanged for money and is not refunded.

7. Withdrawal, cancellation and refunds

As a consumer you have the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of concluding it, without giving a reason, under Romanian Government Emergency Ordinance 34/2014. For digital content and services supplied immediately, this right is lost if you expressly asked for performance to begin before the period ended and acknowledged that you lose the right of withdrawal. The tick in the purchase process serves exactly that purpose: with it, the licence is activated on the spot.

Beyond the law we apply a simple rule: if in the first 14 days after payment you have not run a single estimate with the licence you bought, we refund the full amount on request, by the same payment method, within 14 days of the request. A duplicate payment made by mistake, or a licence not activated through our fault, is refunded automatically. We do not refund periods already used, licence codes, or the licences of accounts suspended for breaching these terms. Requests go to the address in section 1, from the account’s e-mail address.

8. Acceptable use

You may use the service for your own projects, personal or professional, including for your clients if you are an installer or a designer. You may not: automatically extract the service’s data - the irradiance, terrain and horizon grids, the equipment databases; redistribute or resell them; offer the results as your own service through automated access; share the account with other people; attempt to bypass the licence or to disrupt the service. We may suspend or close an account that does so, without a refund.

9. Intellectual property

The site, the calculation engine, the data grids, the equipment databases, the texts, the graphics and the code are the property of SENTIENT BIT SRL or of our licensors and are protected by copyright law. You have a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service under these terms; you acquire no rights over it. The climate data comes from public sources - EUMETSAT CM SAF, PVGIS, open elevation models, OpenStreetMap - used under their licences.

Your projects - the location, the configuration, the results, the generated documents - are yours. You can export them at any time and use them freely, commercially included. We claim no rights over them and use them for no purpose other than providing you the service.

10. Availability and changes to the service

We make reasonable efforts to keep the service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may change, improve or discontinue features, announcing it beforehand on the News page when the change is significant. Changes to the calculation engine that move the figures are noted explicitly there. If we discontinue the service for good, we refund the remaining licence period pro rata.

11. Limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profit, savings or data, arising from the use of the service or from decisions taken on the basis of the estimates. Our total liability towards you, for any claim related to the service, is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months. Nothing in this document limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including mandatory consumer rights.

12. Force majeure

We are not liable for failing to perform, or for performing late, our obligations because of events beyond our control that could not be foreseen or avoided: natural disasters, war, epidemics, acts of authorities, outages of internet, hosting or payment providers, cyber attacks. For the duration of such an event the affected obligations are suspended, and the licence period lost is extended accordingly.

13. Links to third parties

The site contains links to third-party sites: PVGIS, manufacturers’ datasheets, ANPC, the ODR platform. We do not control their content and are not responsible for it; you use them at your own risk and under those sites’ terms.

14. Personal data

How we process data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Romanian law. We settle any disagreement amicably first: write to us and we answer within 14 days. If we do not reach a solution, the dispute falls under the jurisdiction of the courts of Brașov, Romania, without prejudice to your consumer right to go to the court of your own domicile. For alternative dispute resolution you can use ANPC - SAL or the European ODR platform.

16. Validity and changes to the terms

These terms are valid from the update date shown above until a new version is published. We may update them; the version in force is the one published on this page. Changes that affect your current licence are announced by e-mail at least 14 days in advance. If a clause is declared void, the others remain in force.
